The SCS has been a part of many projects in
both academia and the wider industrial community. Our
internal OSU clients have included researchers from every department in
the university as well as several administrative offices. Our
external clients have included departments of the Ohio state
government, private industrial companies, law firms, and
school districts.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Crash Forecasting
- Developed a statistical model to forecast likely locations
of crashes on Ohio metro roadways.
- Incorporated information on different crash types
into the model giving the Highway Patrol additional
information on what types of crashes are likely at
different times.

Market Rate Survey, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services
- Designed a survey that was sent to all child-care
providers in Ohio for the purposes of determining fair
market rates for child-care subsidies to low-income families.
- Analyzed the survey responses to determine the most
effective way to adjust subsidies for differing market
demands.

- Employed a Bayesian model to characterize the
uncertainty associated with hospital rankings on metrics
of patient care.

Center for Pets
- Conducted exploratory and model-based analyses to
relate treatment procedures for a life-threatening
condition to treatment outcomes.

Forecasting Finanacial Obligations for State Employee
Professional Development, Union Education Trust
- Developed statistical models to forecast future
financial obligations to pay for state government employee
professional development.
- Created a software package to automate the
forecasting process and allow different reimbursement
scenarios to be tested.

Retainer Agreement with the College of Nursing
- Through a retainer agreement, the SCS has provided
statistical assistance on a wide variety of grant
applications and internal projects at the CON.
- Performed sample size calculations for non-standard
models as required for submission of NIH grants.
- Assisted in the development of experimental
methodology for repeated measures and single-case
experimental designs.
- Performed statistical analyses of data collected by
CON instructors to determine the efficacy of new teaching strategies.

Evaluation of the Math Coaching Program in Ohio Schools, Department of
Teaching and Learning
- Developed a database for schools participating in an
innovative math teaching program to record information on
student improvement on math tests.
- Conducted statistical analyses to determine whether
the implementation of the Math Coaching Program had a
significant effect on math learning across different types
of schools.

Neanderthal Growth Rates, Department of
Anthropology
- Performed analysis comparing characteristics of
Neanderthal teeth to modern human teeth from several
populations.
- Analysis results included in an article published in
the Proceedings of the National Academy of the
Sciences.

High Pressure Food Processing, Department of Food
Science & Technology
- Designed an experiment to test the migration of
antioxidant films from storage pouches to the food
contained within them.
